A Glimpse of Me
I am Rubi, an African American from metro Detroit. I put my ethnicity down because I think that has had a big impact on the experiences I’ve had and also the obstacles I’ve gotten over and have yet to come. I am a freshman at Michigan State University and my major is kinesiology and pre-med. Kinesiology is the study of human movement. I find kinesiology so interesting because of my sports background and my passion for fitness and overall health. I want to be successful in life and be able to live comfortably so therefore I want to be a sports medicine doctor when I grow up. The idea of being in the health profession and helping people who are going through the same thing that I did during my athletic career is amazing to me. I am a caring, ambitious, funny person. I am self-motivated and active, I like to keep improving myself. I was very active in high school. I played soccer, basketball, cheer, and dance and obtained a 4.1 GPA. I love singing, eating, sleeping, and working out. I adore music and dancing. I can literally dance for hours and still not be tired of it. My dream is to become a famous singer and start traveling the world doing concerts and tours, but I am super shy about my singing and hope that one day I come out of that. Yes I am a shy person but I have come a long way from what I use to be. I have learned to appreciate the relationships in my life and I love strengthening those relationships and starting new ones. I always see the good in people before the bad, but that has made me more prone to giving out more chances to people than I probably should. Also I love to laugh and make others laugh. I am becoming a more emotional, caring person or “soft” as my friends say. I guess my experiences helped to make me become that way. I’ve learned that things do not last forever so I appreciate everything and everyone in my life now.
As a student I am very proactive and serious about my grades and work. I have a high standard for myself and do not like receiving anything less than an A. I like to actually understand my courses and the work that I am given rather than just cramming and then forgetting it later. I hate doing homework just as much as the next college student, but I care too much about my future to slack off in my academics. I think I am a more hands on learner, if I see how it’s done, and get more involved with it instead of just getting lectured at all day I will be able to have more depth in the concept and will most likely retain the information better. I like learning material that is actually going to help me in my field.
As far as writing goes I just write papers and materials for my classes. I do not usually just write for fun. I always received good grades on my writing in school and think that I do have a lot of strengths in writing but I do not plan on writing as a career. When I write I usually don’t have that many drafts that I go through I just kind of organize it in my head or on paper once and then kind of clean it up or reorganize it to make it flow better. I know that I have a lot to learn as a writer and I am willing to keep an open mind about the things and topics that I am going to learn in this course. I admire people who get lost in their writing as far as the process goes. I want to be able to brainstorm and draft like hell and then find some crazy, wonderful, amazing point or detail in that process and be able to work off of that.
This blog will go over some of the key concepts and skills of the kinesiology field. It will give insight and information about the things that actually go on in the field and components that make the field so enjoyable and unique. I hope that after reading various posts throughout this blog, one can have a better understanding and feel for the kinesiology/ medical field.
