Do You Want to Lose Weight?!

Let's talk about weight! So I learned about the energy balance equation in my kinesiology lecture. Here it is:

Energy in
Caloric Balance = Food Ingested
-(minus)
Energy Out
 Metabolic Rate
Thermogenesis
Physical Activity
Energy Excreted in Waste

On the energy in side is the calories that you consume during the day. The energy out is the factors that burn those calories or get rid of them. So you can either have a positive balance or a negative balance.
For you to have a positive balance you have to consume more calories than you expend. This results in weight GAIN.
For you to be In Balance you should be consuming the same number of calories as you expend. This results in weight MAINTENANCE.
For you to have a negative balance you have to consume fewer calories than you expend. This results in weight LOSS.

So I learned the importance of diet in any weight altering goals. Diet can make or break a fitness program. This information can help anybody with the goal of trying to lose, gain, or even maintain their weight. Next time you come from a hard, rigorous workout think about what you eat and how much you eat before you pile pizza, fries, and cake on your plate.

  1. Great post! The information was straightforward and easy to understand. One additional thing that might have made the post even better could information about when it is better to maintain weight versus lose weight, if it's ever better.
